ModTech 2017 International Conference - Brief Overview

The ModTech Professional Association in cooperation with “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi and “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu as the host institution organized the 5th edition of the ModTech2017 International Conference, in the Ramada Hotel in Sibiu, between 14 and 17 June 2017. Other prestigious institutions, from Romania and abroad, such as the Society of Powder Technology of Japan, the Silesian University of Technology of Gliwice, Poland, “Alecu Russo” University of Balti, the Republic of Moldova, the Maritime University of Constanta and all the universities in our region, were also at our side as co-organizers. The ModTech Professional Association currently has 285 members from Romania and abroad and 6 subsidiaries in South Korea, Iraq, Poland, Turkey, Serbia, and Republic of Moldova.

The 5 editions of the ModTech International Conference was attended by specialists from 26 countries: USA, Japan, South Korea, India, China, Iraq, Taiwan, Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Serbia, Republic of Moldova, Belgium, Spain, Turkey, Portugal, Switzerland, Russia, Sweden, The Netherlands, Croatia, Slovakia, Ireland, Great Britain, Romania.

For its fifth edition, the conference got together specialists in the field of modern material manufacture and processing technologies both from Romania and from other world countries like: Croatia, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Poland, Republic of Moldova, Serbia, South Korea, USA, Great Britain, etc. On this occasion, the 126 participants talked about the latest information on the research topics tackled by the conference. The conference was also attended by 10 members of The Korean Society of Manufacturing Technology Engineers. On the first day of the conference, the participants visited a few laboratories of “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu.

The award of excellence Octavian Pruteanu were awarded during the opening ceremony of professor Hong-Seok Park, of the University of Ulsan, South Korea, for the setup of a ModTech branch in South Korea and his special contribution as editor of International Journal of Modern Manufacturing Technologies. The second prize was awarded to Mrs. Anete Ashton, Editor IOP, for her special cooperation over the last three years and, last but not least, to Professor Ioan Bondrea, the Rector of “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu, for his remarkable contribution to our teaching and research activities.

The papers read by the participants both during the three plenary sessions and in the different sections tackled the following topics: manufacturing process engineering; breakthroughs concerning composite materials and technologies; mechanical process characterization, modeling and simulation; integrated manufacture and robotics; technology transfer; micro and nanotechnologies; maritime engineering.

The papers presented during the ModTech2017 conference will the published in the International Journal of Modern Manufacturing Technologies, Romania and IOP Conference Series - Materials Science and Engineering, Great Britain.
